U.S. Department of Education
The Department of Education, created in 1980 by combining offices from several federal agencies, ensures equal access to education and promotes educational excellence throughout the nation.

Education Commission of the States
The mission of the Education Commission of the States is to help state leaders identify, develop and implement public policy for education that addresses current and future needs of a learning society.

Community College Policy Center
Based at the Education Commission of the States in Denver, the Center supports the creation of public policy that encourages the development of effective and innovative community colleges across the United States.

American Association of Community Colleges (AACC)
AACC is the primary national advocacy organization for community colleges. It works closely with directors of state offices to inform and affect state policy. AACC also collaborates with a wide range of entities within the higher education community to monitor and influence federal policy and to collaborate on issues of common interest.

Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT)
ACCT is a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical and junior colleges in the United States, Canada and England.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)
As the largest honor society in higher education, PTK’s mission is to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programs.

National Center for Higher Education Management Systems (NCHEMS)
NCHEMS is a private nonprofit (501)(c)(3)organization whose mission is to assist colleges and universities as they improve their management capability.

American Council on Education (ACE)
ACE helps colleges and universities anticipate and address the challenges of the 21st century by fostering greater collaboration and new partnerships within and outside higher education.

League for Innovation in the Community College
The League is an international organization dedicated to improving community colleges through innovation, experimentation and institutional transformation.

luzerne.jpgLuzerne County Community College (LCCC) provides quality learning opportunities throughout northeastern Pennsylvania. Through its 167-acre main campus located in Nanticoke, four off-campus centers and eight off-campus locations, LCCC offers students more than 100 academic and technical credit programs and noncredit career training programs in traditional classrooms and distance learning environments. LCCC has the largest credit enrollment and is the largest provider of workforce development programming in the county.

Enrollment as measured by Full-Time Equivalent students (FTEs) has set a record high for the third consecutive academic year.  The 132,440 total FTEs in 2009-10 represents an 8.4% increase from last year.  All of the 2009-10 increase is in credit programs.  Credit FTEs increased 11.5% from 2008-09 to nearly 119,000 – a 63.2% increase during this decade.
